New Soccer Fields Facts

Marshfield Youth Soccer (MYS) is presenting a great opportunity to the children and families of Marshfield by self funding the development of two full size soccer fields.

Our children are in serious need of fields for many sports. There are not enough fields and the ones we have are not adequately maintained due to budget constraints. With the exciting possibility of building a new high school where some playing fields are located, Marshfield need to plan for more fields now. MYS is proposing to build two fields on the same property that the town itself was going to purchase 2 years ago at Town Meeting to build fields.

Marshfield Youth Soccer is now proposing to build and maintain these fields at no cost to the town or any taxpayers. With over 1,100 boys and girls playing soccer, who would deny such a fantastic opportunity?  Here are the facts:

Fields

  • 2 full size fields (MIAA)
  • Grass covered, fully irrigated
  • Used primarily for U12 – U18 age groups
  • Parking for over 80 cars including handicapped parking spaces

Funding

  • Purchase Price $600,000, but $600,000 of earth material sold will be applied to the purchase by Peter and Kim Armstrong.  Net cost = ZERO!
  • The Armstrong family has invested over $400,000 so far in this property with the purchase, design, legal and permitting fees
  • Land excavated to rough grade field layouts
  • Marshfield Youth Soccer (MYS) will fund the building and maintenance of the fields at No Cost to the Town of Marshfield.

Excavation

  • 460,000 cubic yards to removed from 10 acres to bring the land to grade for fields
  • Time frame for excavation is dependent on the quantities permitted by the Board of Selectman

Status

  • Over 1,700 Marshfield residents have signed petitions supporting the fields
  • Unanimous approval from the Zoning Board
  • Unanimous approval of the Town of Marshfield ADA Committee for compliance with ADA Guidelines
  • National Heritage for Endangered Species permit expected January 2010
  • Compliant with MA Environmental Policy Act (MEPA)
  • Unanimous approval of the Planning Board.
  • The Board of Selectmen did not approve Peter Armstrong's earth removal permit.
