A FEW THINGS ABOUT OUR CLUB:

PLAY

"Play encourages self-regulation and curiosity, emphasizing continuous exploration and enhances movement adaptability." Play is how children learn to move, to socialize, to imagine, to construct, to explore, and much more. Our practices are game based.

FUN

We are a club for kids who love to play soccer without constant adult direction. We want kids to have fun and feel safe to make mistakes. We want kids to be engaged and to avoid long queues. We want players to express their autonomy and to perceive and solve problems that emerge in the game contexts.

Do players really need fundamentals before playing games?

LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT

"Skilled behavior evolves over timescales of performance, learning, and development."  We think long-term.  We value togetherness and want to help players and teams form synergies over time.

What is winning?

Being better today then you were yesterday, every day.”

LEARNING

How do players learn and what is the learning process?

Learning is not the process of repeating a solution, it is repeating the process of finding a solution.”

We believe that skills are acquired in context. The way a player perceives, will determine how a player acts. Soccer has a landscape of opportunities to perceive and act on (affordances).

ADULT DIRECTION

We want to help players become independent of continuous instruction, feedback, and direction.

We want to allow players the opportunity to make their own decisions, to make mistakes, and learn from them. We want to encourage self regulation and self directed learning.

We try to use verbal feedback sparingly to help guide behavior.

COMPETITION

We want to include as many players as possible and for as long as possible, that does not mean we are not competitive. We encourage competitiveness, and want kids who are resilient, perseverant, who lead, and support.

You can't climb mountains by going around them. You learn to climb mountains by climbing mountains.”

COLLABORATION

If you're a parent who compares their child's team to other teams, wants their child to win at all costs, constantly shouts instructions, argues with the coach, likes to club shop, we're not going to be a good fit for you.

Soccer is a team sport. If you're interested in a place at our club, before signing your child up please make sure your aware of the commitment because your participation will be important for everyone involved.

WE ARE MARSHFIELD UNITED

We are different from other clubs and we're proud of this. We want kids to have fun. We want kids to feel safe and make their own decisions. We don't evaluate and select young players to design winning teams. Our philosophy is science based, therefore we see the benefits of players playing in teams of mixed abilities.

We don't label children as elite or treat them like mini professionals. They are kids.

The majority of our players are from Marshfield but we play against clubs who have players from all over. We know that games will be challenging. We are playing these teams not because they are easy, because they are hard.

The reasons you seek out the tough stuff is.. to challenge you to be better”
