A FEW THINGS ABOUT OUR CLUB:

PLAY

"Play encourages self-regulation and curiosity, emphasizing continuous exploration and enhances movement adaptability." Play is how children learn to move, to socialize, to imagine, to construct, to explore, and much more. Our practices are game based.

FUN

We want kids to have fun and feel safe to try new things, and make mistakes. We want to create an environment where kids will want to keep coming back. OUT with the constant instruction, and IN with giving children the opportunity to make their own decisions.

Do players really need fundamentals before playing games?

LONG TERM DEVELOPMENT

"Skilled behavior evolves over timescales of performance, learning, and development."  We have a long-term mindset. We want to retain players. We value togetherness and want to help players and teams form synergies over time.

What is winning?

Being better today then you were yesterday, every day.”

The talent that whispers

LEARNING

How do players learn and what is the learning process?

Learning is not the process of repeating a solution, it is repeating the process of finding a solution.”

We view learning through an ecological lens, meaning that the individual- environment relationship must me taken into account when designing practice environments.

ADULT DIRECTION

We try to use verbal feedback sparingly to help guide behavior.

We want to give players the opportunity to make their own decisions, to make mistakes, and learn from them. We want to encourage self regulation and self directed learning.

We want to help players become independent of continuous instruction, feedback, and direction.

COMPETITION

We are inclusive but that doesn't mean we're not competitive.  We value competitiveness, determination, and perseverance. Being competitive isn't just hopping on the "best" team and then winning games.

You can't climb mountains by going around them. You learn to climb mountains by climbing mountains.”

COLLABORATION

Can we define success by our impact on others? We believe that parents, players and coaches must all work together to shape an environment that offers player's opportunities to enjoy, play, and have fun.

Soccer is a team sport. If you're interested in a place at our club, before signing up please make sure you're aware of the commitment because your participation will be important for everyone involved.

WE ARE MARSHFIELD UNITED

We have an ecological approach. Our approach is science based. We don't evaluate and select young players to design winning teams. In many ways, we are different from other clubs.

We want to shape environments with a focus on fun, as opposed to 'serious'. We believe "a playful state of mind is an ideal state for learning."

The majority of our players are from Marshfield but we play against clubs who "select" players from all over. We assume that games will be challenging. We want to play these teams not because they are easy, because they are hard. The reasons you seek out the tough stuff is.. to challenge you to be better”
