Marshfield Youth Soccer is deeply saddened by the passing of coach Tryg Swift on December 10, 2011. Coach Swift was well loved by players and fellow coaches for his positivity and good humor. He modeled the kind of sportsmanship we would hope for in all coaches. In Coach Swift's memory, Marshfield Youth Soccer has added the Trygve Swift Memorial Scholarship to our existing scholarship program. The Trygve Swift Memorial Scholarship will be awarded at the Marshfield High School awards ceremony on May 31st.

Coaches, save the date: Coaches Appreciation Night is scheduled for Friday, June 29th, 7:00 pm at the Tavern.

The clothing, footwear and soccer gear collected by Marshfield Youth Soccer has arrived at An Orphan's Dream orphanage in Kenya. Ryan Wood wrote a great piece about it for the Marshfield Mariner.

Marshfield Youth Soccer is seeking volunteers in all age groups. Please contact the appropriate age group Division Director or Executive Board Secretary Jen Cantwell if you are interested in or have questions about coaching, refereeing, lining fields, fund-raising or helping in any way. Contact information can be found under the MYS Board and MYS Division Directors tabs at left.

Attention coaches:

Mass Youth Soccer requires all coaches submit a CORI/Kidsafe form. If you have submitted the Cori background information form after June 2005, there is no need to submit a new one. However, any adult who has not submitted the cori background form or is a new coach, administrator, OR referee should click here.

Our Players Go On To Do Great Things

Amanda Bilas played Marshfield Youth Soccer for years, and went on to play for the Quinnipiac University Women Soccer team in Hamden Connecticut. Amanda suffered a career-ending injury to her knee in the fall of her senior year. During her time at QU, Amanda volunteered in many ways, for projects such as Special Olympics and Integrated Refugee & Immigration Services (IRIS.) One of Amanda’s professors told her about the Grassroots Soccer Program, and she decided to combine her International Business studies and years of soccer experience by applying for an internship. Since graduating in May 2011 from QU, Amanda is now a programs intern in Lusaka Zambia.

“After my injury, I realized how fortunate I had been to play the game at a very high level and I thought that is was now my turn to show that appreciation.  I want others to see the benefit of the ‘beautiful game’ and essentially return the favors from soccer. I think about it as sort of ‘playing it forward’.  I want to donate my time and share experiences that I have learned from playing soccer and help those who are less fortunate.”

Grassroots Soccer is a South Africa based organization that is devoted to using the power of soccer to educate, inspire, and mobilize communities to stop the spread of HIV.

Marshfield Youth Soccer recently voted to donated $200 to Amanda's cause, but she is still raising money toward her stay in Zambia. You can follow Amanda's experiences at http://akbilas.blogspot.com/view/mosaic, if you would like to contribute, contact Amanda at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
